From the cultural point of view, there are ancient bonds between Italy and Russia, two countries with great traditions and outstanding artistic personalities that roused a deep interest in both countries’ audience, produced in-depth examinations and fruitful collaborations, established important and stable relationships. This is the background that gave shape to this year’s bilateral initiatives between Italy and Russia: 2011 is, in fact, the Year of the Italian Culture and Language in Russia and of the Russian Culture and Language in Italy. A unique chance to witness the sumptuousness and variety of the historical and artistic heritages of both countries, leveraging events of great prestige and tradition: it is also a precious opportunity to enhance recent artistic and professional collaborations in need of an ideal context of development and growth. Among the various initiatives promoted by the General Direction for Live Show, the bilateral project conceived by the Fondazione Teatro Piemonte Europa in collaboration with the Tsekh Festival represents a great and coherent example. The partnership between the two Festivals has contributed to the realization of two different and specular hosting events: the “Russian showcase”, the special 2011 edition’s initiative conceived by Teatro a Corte, and the “Italian showcase”, on schedule next December in Moscow. The two showcases are the result of an artistic co-production of two young companies coming from these countries. The Teatro a Corte Festival, a privileged stage for the European scene since its birth, welcomes therefore the new and dynamic trends coming from the Russian Federation during the year of the bilateral cultural initiatives. Through far-sighted and international artistic exchanges, it aims to enhance the European creativity.

A great event taking place in Turin and in the Savoy residences surrounding the city, that give hospitality to the best European scene: Teatro a Corte puts side by side urban and dance theatre, figure theatre and contemporary circus, performances of renowned actors and equestrian theatre, Italian companies and the most groundbreaking realities of the European scene. The Festival creates a unique and fascinating image marked up by a strong relationship between the shows, the architecture and the locations’ history. Some projects were directly produced by the Festival, others are co-productions that involved other festivals and prestigious production centres, based in Italy and abroad. The main stylistic trait of the event is represented by its vocation towards the contemporary theatre scene: furthermore, the magnificent and historical courtyards such as the Castello di Moncalieri, the Castello di Rivoli, the Cavour’s residence in Santena and the Reggia di Venaria Reale are natural settings for the joining of different art forms and languages, and, at the same time, they are extraordinary symbols of the world cultural history.
